When people feel psychologically safe, they are more willing to listen and see value in what you offer. Even if they feel uncomfortable, they are more likely to share their views, fears, desires, and regrets. When they don’t feel safe, their brains revert to fight or flight mode to ward off threats. Even if you had a good connection at the start of your conversation, when safety vanishes, people disengage to protect themselves.
You generate safety with your emotions more than words. The emotions you experience that reflect how much you care and respect someone throughout your conversation facilitate or diminish the safety they feel. This webinar will explore three ways you can create psychological safety with your presence:
- Recognize when you are feeling judgment, impatience, or fear and then choose how you want to feel instead.
- Use your emotions to open the three centers of your nervous system – your head, heart, and gut – to fully receive what they offer in both words and expressions as well as maintaining a safe space for the conversation.
- Go beyond listening to receiving by using self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Then use what you receive in your conversation to facilitate a strong connection, relationship, and collaborative results.
